Friday Five - A Week In Tech #3

1. Oculus Rift Finally Starts Shipping!

Starting next week this much awaited and anticipated virtual reality headset will begin shipping. CEO of Oculus, Brendan Iribe yesterday tweeted a photo of a packaged Rift to commemorate the fact it begins shipping this Monday the 28th of March.
This is a pretty big deal for nerds and gamers alike, it's been a long journey since the company's original kickstarter campaign back in August 2012. It's great to see how a small startup which received funding off kickstarter is now one of the biggest VR companies in the industry and we can't wait to see what the response is.
Now if you weren't one of the lucky few who managed to grab a perorder back in January you will have to wait until July to get your hands on one of the bad boys. However you can make an order now at their site! Check the guys out here, their stuff is pretty great.

2. Atari Releases Titles on Steam

So this week Atari has released a series of old classics on the PC gaming marketplace, Steam. This is something which i'm only certain that some of our older demographic will be delighted with. The Atari Vault is a bundle of 100 classic Atari games priced extremely fairly at $16.99! However you must act quick as the price will soon rise to a WHOPPING $20....

Unfortunately for Mac users like me and Linux users like some of the Robotify team it will not be available, like most games this package is only available on Windows. Look it's like $20, if you get a steam controller on the cheap online it's pretty much a no brainer. Relive your past with Atari Vault! ;)

Apple Release New 4" iPhone SE

At an event early this week Apple announced the iPhone SE and the iPad Pro. The iPhone SE is basically a smaller 4 inch phone with the power of its predecessor, the iPhone 6s. It follows the same basic design as the iPhone 5 and so far has received decent reviews. In my opinion the 4 inch form factor is nice, however for someone that writes a lot of emails and uses their phone often for media consumption the 5 inch-ish screen size on the iPhone 6 is great. I would expect to see another iPhone coming this year maybe nearer to the end of Summer, something which follows the same ideas as the current range. I would be very surprised if this was Apple's only phone release this year.

4. This Is One Pretty Cool Video.

Check out this timelapse video of a spider weaving its web, this is some pretty interesting stuff. Enjoy!

P.S. you probably shouldn't watch if you're squeamish about insects and stuff....then again I probably should have said that before you clicked play...
